Over the last week, room A5 learned about Homeostasis. You might be wondering what that is or what it has to do with Mt. Everest? Well, Homeostasis is the balance between the body and the external-internal enviornment and how it effects your body. What happens when you go outside in the cold in freezing temeratures? You shake to warm yourself up, that is homeostasis. We watched a movie on how homeostasis effects you while climbing Mt. Everest. You can't just climb up Mt. Everest in one day, you have to have months and months of training. They have to constantly climb up and down so that your body can produce more blood cells, so they can hold more oxygen. If you go above 26,000 ft. without oxygen your body starts to shut down, this is called the death zone. You have to be physically and mentally fit. If you make it to the top, you then have to get down. Most people have to use oxygen tanks, so you can breathe. At the heighth that you are at, the air is thinner so it is harder to breathe. Many people die just trying to complete a dream.
